Pogs were everywhere during the 1990's and playgrounds were full of schoolkids playing their friends for either keeps or just for fun.

Pogs were named Pogs because of a brand of juice made from passionfruit, orange and guava (POG). People used the bottle caps in Hawaii as far back as the 1920's to play the game before it was commercialised by a Canadian games company in the 1990's.

It is a simple game where players put an equal number of Pogs on a stack face down and then take turns to throw their Slammer onto the stack. Any Pogs that are turned over are then won by the player who turned them over.

Pogs were banned from a lot of schools for a couple of reasons. The main reason was that as pupils were winning and keeping other people's Pogs this was classed as gambling and schools didn't want to promote gambling at such a young age. The other reason was that pupils were fighting over lost Pogs when they lost them in a game.

The World POG Federation was most probably the biggest brand of Pogs with other companies making Pogs for advertising reasons as they knew they would get their brand shown on playgrounds across the world.
